Rare Nail Art: Zombie French Tips

One of my top bucket lists items is to be a zombie extra in a tv show or movie so the only way I tide myself over until that happens is to occasionally zombify myself for Halloween.   This year, Halloween proper was a bust because I had to work at my internship however, a conference I was attending a couple of days before had a Halloween party.  I bought a Zombie prom queen getup and changed the sash to be "Miz Livin Ded 2013" in bloody finger painting complete with a blood, gore, a fancy ball gown, and a black metal tiara.

I was thinking of a beauty queen clawing her way to the top so the nails are broken way down into the quick but you can still see that she once had a pageant ready mani.  These hurt me just looking at them but they were fun to do.  I just cut down false nails with small scissors and nail clippers and then glued them onto my clean, unpainted nails.  Then i added all the colors.  I think nails like these are ok to be messy so the effect is more grotesque! 

Anyway, grad school still marches on but I am graduating in December!  Oh, all the free time I'll have!  Can't wait to get back to frankening and polishing!

Week 11 of the Year of Polish Challenge: Saint Patrick's Day Nails Two Ways

I love the trend of a different design on every nail and used all of my nail canvas for this week's Saint Patrick's Day Challenge.  The first set of nails below is generally free-handed with french tip designs on the thumb and pinkie nails.  The rainbow design is accomplished using a watercolor technique.  I also used some glitter nail art balls for the "gold."

 

 On these nails, almost everything is free-handed except for the background of the middle finger which was stamped from a design on Bundle Monster plate 214.  The rainbow effect was made with quick dabs of polish.  I painted my ring finger nail with Metallic Yellow and while still wet I dipped the nail into the gold steel nail art balls. 

 

I really like the 3d effect that using the steel nail art balls make as gold coins in the pot of gold and as my accent nail on the other set of nails.  I am very happy with my early and cute Saint Pat's Day nails!

Week 9 of the Year of Polish Challenge: Vintage Mint and Pink Manicure

 This was a quick and dirty free-handed vintage manicure.  I just did one coat of Julep's Alicia (that just arrived in my Maven box!) and used a nail art brush to freehand lines in Savage and then filled in the half moons and french tips with more of Savage.

Asymmetrical Purple French Tip Nails

Just playing around tonight and came up with these ultra sparkly nails!

To get these I started out with clean, base coated nails.  I used a striper nail art brush to make a diagonal line in Planks A Lot from the top curve of one part of the nail to the lower side of the other nail. Once all lines were drawn I went back in with a nail polish brush and filled in the sections in Planks a Lot.  Next I used a striper brush to outline the top line in Gold Coin and started the diagonal line of the other gold section.  I then used a regular polish brush and filled in the rest of the gold section with Gold Coin, resulting in the nails above.

To add some sparkle, I used several coats of Spark-tacular top coat to the end gold section of each nail. I had the Twinkly Love confetti polish laying around and thought a small heart would be cute amidst the glitter so I added one to each nail.  Last, I used my Pro FX Complete 3 as a top coat.  I am in love with these right now and I'm thinking I should've gone bigger with the glitter!

Metallic French Chevron Nails

Just playing around with some of my new and old polish and came up with these Metallic French Chevron nails.  So pretty!

After prepping my nails with a base coat, I used a striping nail art brush dipped in Metallic Aqua to make the blue side of the chevron.  I used the same brush to apply the Metallic Fuchsia polish to make the fuchsia side.  I then added a layer of Blingtastic over the aqua section and Its All in the Cut over the fuchsia section.  Last, I added Julep's Fast Drying Top Coat to seal it all in.  I know this design looks great on longer nails but I think it looks crazy good on my short, natural nails too!

Year of Polish Challenge: Lace French Tip Manicure

For my 2nd day of the Year of Polish Challenge, today was French Tip Manicure.  Thus, I pulled out my Konad Image Plate m77, some pink, gold, and white polishes and went to town!

After applying two coats of Soul Mate to each nail, I then applied one coat of You Just Wait to get some extra shine.   Next, I used a lace pattern on Konad Image Plate m77 and stamped it on the edge of each nail.  Last, I outlined the tops and bottoms of my nails in Gold Coin and applied a Julep's Fast Drying Top Coat.  I'm not a fan of candy pink anything but these nails turned out super sweet:)

Halloween French Tips

Despite having short nails, I still love french tips so I broke out several stamping plates for some Halloween nails

After putting on a clear basecoat, I used Konad's French tip M19 plate to stamp on french tips using Wet N' Wild's Black.  Then using Bundle Monster plate BM 13, I stamped on the spider web image on each nail but in different places, even over the french tip on some nails.   Last, using the spider image on Konad image plate M28, I stamped spiders on each thumb nail and filled in the design with black.  I then put a dot of white polish on the back of the spider and let it dry.  I covered the white dot with red polish to make the spider look black widow-ish.  Last, I applied a clear topcoat.  Fun, easy nails for Halloween.



Flamenco Inspired French Tip Nails

I had just received my Konad French Tip plate M19 and needed a design.  I absolutely love french tips even for my extremely short nails.   This design pretty much came out of nothing.  The only thing I actually planned to do was to have black french tips.  Using Essie's Licorice, I applied the french tip stamp to each nail.

From the french tips, I decided to apply a rose image from an image plate.  I think I was watching "Dancing with the Stars" or something because once I decided to add the rose image it came together and I had a theme!  I am not entirely sure which plate I used so if you want to know, please contact me and I will take a look at my images plates to ascertain which brand and plate was used.  I did apply the rose image in different places on each nail.  The rose image was so large that I could really only fit one on each nail.   I then freehanded two leaves for each rose with a nail art brush in Sally Hansen's Lickety Split Lime.  Last I applied a topcoat in Wet N Wild Fast Dry's Party of Five glitter.   I really like the uncolored nail background in this design.

Note to self: do more natural nail background in nail art!
