Milky Way Galaxy Nails, Week 33 of the Year of Polish Challenge

This is probably my 3rd Galaxy mani and I have to say that its my best!

Week 33 of the Year of Polish Challenge was a Galaxy manicure and I wanted sparkly, colorful, AND as a proud Science nerd, I had to have them have an actual galaxy.  On my ring finger nail, I painted our home galaxy, the glorious spiraled Milky Way Galaxy.

On my index finger nail I painted a supernova.   The other finger nails have the traditional Galaxy motif.

With that, I leave you with a trip back to the 90s....

Droid Love Nails

I saw a cross stitched project on Pinterest that had R2D2 and said "B****es love Droids."  While I am not a fan of the first word, I did get a little nugget of inspiration to do some Droid Love nails.  Yes the inspiration monster hits me at the weirdest times and due to the strangest things.

First I must apologize for my woefully short nails.  I had to change a bike tire yesterday that tore up my nails and I had to cut three of them down to nothing so I cut all of them down :(  Ah well...luckily they grow ok!

Every thing was free-handed for these.  I did galaxy nails on my thumb and pinkie nails, C3P0 and R2D2 on my ring and index finger nails, and Droid Love on my middle nail.  I do love my nerdy pursuits and there is nothing like a Star Wars marathon to get the weekend going.

These nails won't last long because I am going to a wedding on Saturday.  Might need to tone it down a bit for that.  Which reminds me, congrats to my dear friend, Jaime, the beautiful bride that will marry her love this weekend!

Don't you love the stream of consciousness post I have going.  Wow.  Must Be Bedtime!

Mother & Child Manis

My friend Jaime and I were playing around at her house and her almost 4 year old daughter, Sophia, wanted some pink nails while Jaime was interested in galaxy nails.  Sophia wanted every nail to be decorated so I stamped a white rose on each thumb, black polka dots on the index nails, stripes down the middle nails, silver glitter on the ring nails, and white hearts on the pinky nails. While I painted Sophia's nails, her mother painted her two year old sister, Lily's nails.

Jaime and I have both pinned these galaxy nails in Pinterest and I attempted to recreate them for Jaime.  I think they turned great!

Outta This World Galaxy Nails

Galaxy nails are one nail art trend that I really like and keep seeing.  What is cooler than space?  Nothing!  So I had to take a stab and space-ify my nails.

Polishes Used:
Kleancolor Metallic Aqua
Kleancolor Metallic Purple
Sinful Colors Secret Admirer
Sinful Colors Queen of Beauty
Wet N Wild Kaleidoscope
Revlon Gold Coin
Sally Girl chunky Gold glitter

I really need to get a better camera because these pictures do not do these nails justice!  First I started with a shimmery black base color with Secret Admirer.  I then used a makeup sponge to deposit small areas of color with first the Metallic Purple, then Metallic Aqua, and finally, Gold Coin.  Unfortunately, the aqua doesn't show up much in the picture but its there!   I then used a sponge to put in areas with first Kaleidoscope glitter then Queen of Beauty glitter.  Last I put in larger random pieces of Gold glitter with my dotting tool.

*Tip*  If I had them to do over again, I would try to heavily concentrate the small glitter in the middle of the nail.  I did manage to get most of the glitter near the middle but on some nails I probably should have used smaller pieces of sponge.  I think that this little detail would make all the difference!

I do want to note that I am going to try to start watermarking photos from this site from now on.  I found an awesome tutorial by BloggingwithAmy on Youtube that teaches you how to use the free site Picnik to watermark.  So far so good!
